Tiny Visions
Full Day Workshop

Less can be more! Create "eye-popping" land and seascapes by cutting strips of fused fabrics (no templates!) laying them onto a foundation then stitching back and forth with beautiful colored threads. We begin wit simple colored pencil sketches then build a realistic work of art that is easy and very satisfying. Given the small size you may create two or three of these beauties in class. We will discuss finishing techniques such as mounting, framing and adding borders or just binding. They can be framed with no quilting at all! Bring your creativity and have a very free wheeling fun day! These little fabric gems can range in size from 4" x 6" to 4" x 12" and anywhere in between....quilter's choice.
Note: Half day workshop will not require a sewing machine, threads, or batting.
Supply List for Participants
- Sewing machine in good working order. Feed dogs should drop. Include extra machine needles, bobbins, darning foot, 1/4" foot. Freemotion or controlled quilting can be used.
- Machine needles - Top stitch 12,14,16 or quilting needles of various sizes.
- Table top extender (optional) - A helpful tool.
- 1 quilt sandwich (20" x 20") - For warm up and freemotion practice.
- Photos - Bring a selection of simple land/seascape pictures for inspiration.
- Sketch paper, graphite pencil, assortment of colored pencils for simple sketches. You can do this ahead of class if desired.
- Fabric - 1/8 to 1/4 yard cuts of fabrics (pre-fused if desired). Batiks are best for this technique (less fraying) but any fabric can work. Brights are great for sunsets or sunrises. Subdued colors show a cloudy day. Bring a good assortment of scrap fabrics. Ranges of color hues in blue and green are good choices. If you look at a sunset you will see a range of yellows, oranges, reds and even pinks. Finishing techniques will be discussed. Have a couple of border fabric choices. Think land or sea or both when making fabric choices. Borders can be a bit wild and descriptive of your finished work.
- Threads - A good assortment of colors from bright to dark. Rayons and metallic are great for seascapes. Thread choices play a very important role in this class.
- Batting - 1/2 yard cut - A low loft dense batting is preferred
- Fusible web - 1 yard cut - Pellon Wonder Under regular #805.
- Stabilizer - 1/2 yard minimum cut of medium weight iron on or Pellon craft fuse. Student's choice.
